Auckland Jan 25th

Today we took the hop on hop off bus to explore Auckland. Our first stop was Mission Bay Beach where I had my first paddle in the Pacific it was lovely. Then we walked along the 2mile prom where we hopped on the bus to the next stop Mt Eden one of Aucklands most famous landmarks as the highest volcano on the Auckland isthmus. We hiked to the top to be awarded with a great view of the city. Later we stopped in Parnell village New Zealand's oldest suburb for a wonderful lunch in an outdoor garden restaurant. We finished the tour at the harbour beside the mall I'd seen yesterday I went shopping :) Kevin went for his pint. Auckland's population is 1.4 million most live in the suburbs due to the cost of homes and apartments in the city being very high. The harbour is the largest in New Zealand it handles 25 thousand containers a day. Mode of transportation in the city is the bus, light railway system and ferries. NZ is very expensive a regular coffee is $3.25 but it is great coffee. The people are very friendly and helpful and love to hear where we are from some ask are we Irish (wonder why! ) we say yes but live in Canada. The weather today was 23c and windy. I forgot to apply sun screen big mistake I am very "red" and sore. Michelle I even forgot the small bottle you gave me to keep in my purse ! I now have it handy for the rest of our trip.
